Prince Ali Turban:
a commissioned project
Welcome to Yvette's!
a costume site...
The Fabric:
Crinkled Silk Jacquard...

After finishing Aladdin, our local CYT Fall 2005 show, where I made many headpieces and turbans for the cast, I published my photos on my web site, and was then contacted and commissioned to make a Prince Ali Turban.  This page logs my progress on that project...

At this point, I have three bands of fabric going around the turban, over a layer of silk, making the small drape.  I decided the bottom there was not full enough, and added a fourth band of fabric, making it the band approximately eight yards long.  I tied little buttons of antique gold rattail cords in intervals of about every 6 inches.   The next photos show that fourth band of fabric put in.
Next, I will situate the stone between these two forward buttons of rattail, and add a trim of white and gold cording, and make the larger drape that goes underneath.   I also need to go looking for a purple plume feather! :)

December 27, 2005:

I have the stone in now, and the drape is pinned in.  I'll need to sew that in by hand.  I still need to find the white/gold trim for around the turban, and the purple plume feather.

December 28, 2005:  I found a feather, and some gold/white trim, and have them situated on the turban.  I will sew them, along with the drape, into the turban by hand.  Below are some photos of how it's looking.
I still need to sew in the feather, gold/white trim, and the drape.  At the moment, the drape is pinned in.

I also have a couple shots of the inside of the turban, where I embroidered my web-site address along the inner rim.  :)
January 6, 2006:

The turban is finished, and I've taken a few photos... I want to take a few more, but here is what I have so far...  In two different light settings.  The color of the feather in the first few photos is off... It is more purple in reality...
Here are a few detail shots...
Some shots of the inside.  The cap can be adjusted in the back with the velcro strip...
Outdoor Shots... Postioned with a hanger wrapped in a shawl, to simulate shoulders... This shoulder simulation wasn't perfect, but it gives another perspective... ;D
I know I'm photo happy, but just a few more detail shots taken outside...
This turban was a joy to make! ;D
