Severus Snapes Robes, Construction Page Two, Continuing Construction...
Welcome to Yvette's!
a costume site...
August 21, 2006:
As my Severus Snape Construction Page is nearly full, I thought it was time to open a Page Two, Continuing Construction.  At the present time, the robes are finished, except for a pocket I will add for the wand, and I am currently working on the jacket.  These two photos below show where I left off on Page One.

Today, I finished setting in the sleeves.  I also slipped in saftey pins where I will be putting in the button holes.  Now all that is left to do is to put in the button holes, and finish making the fabric covered buttons, and then sew them on.

Here are some progress photos:

August 21, 2006:

Last night I put in the button holes, using an heirloom button hole stitch on my machine, and today I put in the buttons.

What's left now is some ironing, internal finishing, and a pocket for the wand in the robes.  Here are some photos, first of the jacket, and then the jacket with the robes.
August 23, 2006:

I tried on the whole ensemble today, to check fit, and find I want to move the buttons in, so that the sleeves are tighter at the wrist.  Other than that, I am very happy.

I also put my Severus Snape makeup on, and posed a little in front of the camera... So here are a few sneak peeks of how it all looks on me.

September 10, 2006:

There are many photos of me as Severus taken at Dragon Con 2006... and I have some of these images with my D*C report, on my Journal, tagged under D*C...  I have a collage of D*C photos, without text, and not yet complete, here.

September 27, 2006:

I have tightened the forearms of the sleeves, and added a button on each sleeve...

Here are a few blurry self-taken photos, showing the difference...
Future plans for my dear Severus shall include, but not be limited to... Pants with suspenders attached by buttons, made from the same beautiful silks... and white silk shirts... ;D

Below follow a few photos of Sewing Severus, as he served on the costume committee of my daughter's recent Pocahontas CYT production...
And here below, a few photos of dear Severus with his dark violet boutonniere, worn on opening night...
October 17, 2006:

I did an experiment yesterday, and took the shirt I had been using, and shadowed a pattern off of it... changing the collar and the cuffs, using some white silk I had here at home on hand...  It took all of ten hours to get from drawing the pattern out onto blank newsprint, to a finished shirt.  Here are the photos I have, with the cravat on...
Also, today I did a little shopping... and found this wonderful Ungaro wool ... and have dreams of a new wool coat...
October 27, 2006:
On a lunch date with my son, I wound up sketching as he filled out the fun sheet at the restaurant... I was thinking of the coat I'll be designing for Severus...

Also, I have other images of my dear Severus having fun with friends at Dragon Con 2006...
November 8, 2006:

Today, using Laughing Moon's California Pants pattern, I made up a muslin for my pants... Here is how the muslin fits...
November 9, 2006:

I worked on the pants today, and the suspenders... And... Exciting!   Logospilgrim has her new coat!... It fits like I fitted it to her person, praise God!  I am overjoyed!

Photos of the pants underway:  I have not sewn together the legs, because once I do so, I cannot use the dress form... So, until then... here it is...  At this point, the waist band is only pinned on.

November 10, 2006:

I completed the pants in the early afternoon.  They are fully lined in black silk habotai, and the outer layer is black silk noil.  It took approximately 16 hours from cutting the muslin to finished pants...

Alan Rickman drew me in.

Severus Snape's Robes Construction 2
As of March 2013, Nearly ten years ago I set out to teach myself to sew so that I could create inspired costumes such as those featured on my site.

I created this site  to share what I've done. It launched August 18, 2004, and has been growing ever-since.

In addition to costume construction pages, there are pages featuring portraits of the costumes being worn.

Costuming is a hobby I love documenting, but I do not do commissions, nor do I sell patterns.

Please visit where your interests lead you, and enjoy.
