Nimrodel's River Gown Construction  Page 2...  Continued...
October 3, 2005...
Here continues my progress of Nimrodel's River Gown, (after page one and page two...)  I left off the last page with the finished crochet belt... So, it was looking like this:
The Buttons:
Thank you Chris and Kelli for helping me collect these!  I would have had to wait much longer to finish this gown without you! ;)  So far, I have the buttons sewn in that go down the front of the overdress... I still need to add the ones on the back of the collar...
The Dupioni Sash...
As you can see from this last photo of the buttons sewn in, I have the dupioni sash belt finished... First, I'll show some photos of the dress with the sash belt alone...  The sash belt is reminiscent of the belt on the Yellow Leaf Elf Extra Dress I patterned mine after, and this is best seen in an enhanced photo on Faye's site, Simbelmyne, on this page...

A couple of comments here... First, I don't think I would wear this sash with the gown alone, as I think there is too much contrast... Second... on looking at the photos, after some break and a chance to "get away from it... to see more clearly"  I think I need to bring the belts up on the waist a bit... In other words, imho, they hang too low... :)

The Crochet Belt and Dupioni Sash together...
October 4, 2005...

More photos of the Sash Belt on the gown alone:
Upon noticing what it was that was bugging me, as I was loading yesterday... I stopped, and went back to the gown, and adjusted where the belts fell at the waist, bringing them up a little... Today I finished altering the belts, and have a comparison photo to add, to show what's changed...
In this photo I think the belt is too low...           In this photo the belt has been adjusted...
Here I have some photos inside, and some outside, showing both belts together, after I altered them...
Just the Belts...
In this photo below, you can see beading I added to the collar on the right... I didn't like it, and have since taken them back off...  I may try again, with much fewer beads, but am not sure yet...
Thank you for visiting! :)
As of now, this gown is pretty much finished, aside from a few minor things, and finishing the internal seams... I may yet make the floaty grey-silver under-underdress... I also still need to find or make appropriate footwear... I'd like lace-up boots... and may use a pair of shoes, and make a wrap for the calves, like Legolas' boots... We'll see...

I also am working on the pattern page, which I'll open soon...

And, I have enough of this silk velvet left to make a cloak, and plan to use it to make my  second cloak patterned after the Requiem Cloak...

Peter Jackson's visualization of The Lord of the Rings woke my latent passion for costuming and inspired me to learn to sew.

This page and its links reflect my best efforts in Lord of the Rings costuming.

Projects linking to their own pages are featured here. Click the links in the navigation bar to visit the individual pages, or scroll further below to the image links and see a quick overview of the costumes.

Construction Three
An Inspired Project

Welcome to Yvette's
Nearly ten years ago I set out to teach myself to sew, so that I could create inspired costumes such as those featured on my site.

I created this site  to share what I've done. It launched August 18, 2004, and has been growing ever-since.

In addition to costume construction pages, there are pages featuring portraits of the costumes being worn.

Costuming is a hobby I love documenting, but I do not do commissions, nor do I sell patterns.

Please visit where your interests lead you, and enjoy.
